Most state and federal regulations require gas stations to pass a particular gambit of tests every 30 days (weekly in NY) for tanks, lines, and sensors in order to be considered “compliant.” For sites that have Automatic Tank Gauges (ATGs), Canary helps you by automatically pulling and interpreting these reports, as well as permanently saving your passing results based on both state and federal regulations (a.k.a. Monthly Regulatory Reports).
Statuses
- Passed: The station has a passing test result for that reporting period
- Needs Attention: A certain test result requires action from you
- Pending: Tests have not yet been completed for the current reporting period
Passing Results
What exactly constitutes a passing result for tanks, lines, and sensors varies from state to state. Currently, Canary supports the EPA federal regulations (found in most states), and New York specific regulations.
- EPA Regulations
- Tanks
- All tanks must pass:
- A .2 GPH or .1 GPH periodic test in the given month these tests can either be static or CSLD
- All tanks must pass:
- Sensors
- Each sensor must pass by showing “Sensor Normal” at least once every 30 days
- Lines
- All lines must pass either:
- A .1 GPH annual test within the last year AND a 3.0 GPH test for that given month OR
- A .2 GPH periodic test in the given month
- All lines must pass either:
- Tanks
Compliance Period
- A compliance period is the timeframe in which Canary requests results from each station.
- EPA configuration (Monthly Compliance):
- If there are no specialty state regulations programmed into Canary, Canary will default to the EPA regulations.
- Canary errs on the side of caution when it comes to the EPA standard of passing results every 30 days
- As a result there are two periods: the first 20 days of a month and the remaining days in that calendar month (i.e. January - Jan 1-20 make the first period, and Jan 21-31 make the second period).
- What will you see?:
- Canary will display the passing result for each piece of equipment, and the associated reports.
